CENSUS ALERT: Please Promote within Your Community
July 16, 2020
Yesterday, we held a call with Governor DeSantis’ and Lt. Governor Nunez’s staff regarding the 2020 Census. Currently, Florida is below both the national participation average, as well as Florida’s 2010 census participation average. As an appointed member of the Statewide Complete Count Florida Committee, I have been asked to encourage you all as School Board members to help promote the census within your communities to ensure a complete count in Florida.
Below this message, you will find the official correspondence from Lt. Governor Nunez’ office, complete with links to social media resources and videos. I have also attached a Florida-specific photo that you can post on your social media to help promote participation within your communities. In addition, you can simply retweet FSBA’s Twitter post from earlier today.
Please do not hesitate to contact our team should you have additional questions or need assistance with resources. Thank you for your leadership within your school district and community!
Sincerely,
Andrea Messina

The purpose of this email is to provide you with resources as you continue to promote census participation within your communities and throughout the state. As it stands today, Florida’s response rate 59.2%. This lags behind the national average of 62.1% and Florida’s 2010 census response rate of 63%. You can view the current r esponse rate for each state individually here, an d by clicking on Florida, you can see the response rate for each individual county.
To educate, encourage, and bolster participation, there are many resources available. The U.S. Census Bureau provides great social media content at the link here. The link includes a video and various images that can be posted online. The Lt. Governor has also created videos about the census in b oth English and Spanish. She also has a video tailored specifically to the faith community here.
Anyone with a computer and internet connectivity can complete their census questionnaire at my2020census.gov. Please feel free to disseminate this information, and let us know if we can be helpful in supporting your efforts to encourage census participation.
